How Slowly Does This Progress?

I am a 53-year old female recently diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy after having problems off and on for roughly 12 years. I have begun taking pregabalin, and have been prescribed lots of vitamins in hopes that this will help slow the progression.

In 1994, I developed peritonitis after a mishap during minor surgery cut my colon. I received a colostomy and had it reversed six months later. In retrospect, the timeline would follow that after the surgery I started having numbness and tingling.

They tell me this disease progresses slowly, but I wonder if that takes into consideration how long I've already had it.
