Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, And, Now, Neuropathy

I first got sick with chronic fatigue syndrome / fibromyalgia 18 years ago.  It's been downhill ever since.  When I was 21, I got my first case of viral meningitis.  Since that time, I've had it eight times, twice last year.  I have been on box loads of different medication and nothing helps. I just turned 59.  When you feel the symptoms of meningitis coming on and you go to the hospital, it is traditional treatment to undergo a spinal tap in order to get a proper diagnosis.  Three episodes back, I had a physician that gave me a spinal tap while positioned on my stomach.  The needles went deep into my spine and I feel that he hit the nerves which caused my neuropathy.  I have been living with the symptoms ever since.

The sensations come and go, but when they hit, it feels like I have cement booties on with burning feet, much like walking barefoot on a hot pavement.  I sit many evenings with my feet in a pan of ice water, and that numbs the pain.  For the three pain ailments that I suffer from--arthritis, fibromyalgia, and, now, neuropathy--the doctor gives me percocet and morphine sulfate.  Sometimes, I eat them like candy, and they only relieve my pain for a short time.  I take care of my mother who is 88 years old, with two heart valves and mild Alzheimer’s disease.  I am an only child with one grown son.  The doctors cannot help me for the most part, so I live with three painful diseases, plus the viral meningitis that crops up with stress and heat.  At times, I feel totally helpless and in despair.  I believe that all the pain problems are related in some way.  I do not have diabetes, not yet anyway, but do have elevated sugar if treated with steroids.  I can only pray now for some cure for all my ills.  Is there anyone out there that can help? Sometimes, I wonder.
